DURIANO BEGINNER'S GUIDE: EVERY SYSTEM EXPLAINED
Struggling to survive your first few runs in the Norse-meets-fruit world of Duriano? Master the core loop, pick the right God's Trail, and learn what upgrades are permanent.

Duriano is a dark-fantasy, Norse-meets-fruit rogue-lite arena shooter. Pick a God's Trail and a Durian Variant, build power through Fate's Favors, weapons, and augments across randomized chambers, then bank permanent upgrades between runs. The one thing new players miss: Fate's Favors and augments reset every run, but currency-bought upgrades and unlocks are permanent.
What Is Duriano?
Duriano is a top-down arena rogue-lite shooter/slasher from developer Adisoft Gaming Co., Ltd. The hook is its tone: dark fantasy Norse mythology, reimagined with a whimsical fruit-and-vegetable theme.
The Story, Briefly
The Great War of Ragnarök has ended, but a strange curse has turned every living being into fruits and vegetables. You're reborn as a spiky durian, chosen by the gods to lift the curse. Your journey leads to Muspelheim, the Land of Fire, to confront the giant who destroyed the old world.
The Core Run Loop

Every run in Duriano follows the same basic shape:
- Choose a God's Trail to set the run's overall theme.
- Pick a Durian Variant as your character for the run.
- Collect Fate's Favors as you clear chambers.
- Combine weapon effects and augments to build your power.
- Face bosses that test whatever build you've assembled.
- Bank currency afterward for permanent upgrades and unlocks.
That's the whole loop. Everything else in this guide plugs into one of these six steps.
Chamber Types Explained

Runs are made of randomized chambers, and each type changes what you should expect:
| Chamber Type | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Normal | Standard enemy waves, no twist |
| Horde | More enemies than usual — good for grinding Fate's Favors |
| Contest | More item drops than a normal chamber |
| Blacksmith | A shop chamber where you buy augments |
| Mini-Boss | A tougher single enemy fight |
| Prophet | A random divine gift, good or risky |
| Boss | The chamber that ends the run segment |
What Carries Over Between Runs
This is the single biggest thing new players misunderstand, so it gets its own section instead of a footnote.
What Resets Each Run
Fate's Favors and your in-run weapon/augment build reset the moment a run ends. Don't treat them as long-term investments — spend them freely inside the run you earn them.
What's Permanent
Currency banked at the end of a run buys permanent upgrades. Those upgrades, along with any Durian Variants, weapons, or content you unlock, stay with you across every future run.
Durian Variants: Choosing Your Hero

Five Durian Variants are playable, and each pushes you toward a different playstyle rather than a strict power tier:
| Variant | Playstyle |
|---|---|
| Midguardian | Tanky all-rounder; boosts coin and EXP gain |
| Valkyrian | Fast and aggressive, trading Max HP for Attack Speed and Dash |
| Mimir Follower | Spell-damage glass cannon; weaker Physical Damage and Armor |
| Jugganaut | Very high HP, slow movement |
| Norn Weaver | Evasion-focused, at the cost of Armor |
Pick the one that matches how you want to play, not the one a tier list calls "best."
Weapons and Augments

Weapons like the War Hammer, Elemental Javelin, and Jötunnshard each carry their own Damage, Attack Speed, Range, and Crit stats. Augments are where builds get deep — the War Hammer alone offers up to 10 different augment options. Stacking weapon effects and augments together is what turns a run from "surviving" into "steamrolling."
God's Trails and Fate's Favors

God's Trails — Forseti, Mimir, and Frigg are examples — each grant a 3-level God's Skill and their own pool of Fate's Favors. The Trail you pick at the start shapes which Favors show up during the run, so it's the first real build decision you make.
Enemies You'll Face in Muspelheim
Muspelheim's monsters lean hard into the spice theme. Expect to run into threats like the Blaze Behemoth, Pepper Titan, Cherry Assassin, and Firemelon Specter, among others. Treat early encounters as a chance to learn attack patterns before chambers escalate.
Early Items to Look For

A handful of Tier 1 items are worth grabbing in your first few runs:
- Healing Herb
- Rune of Vigor
- Vitality Elixir
- Guardian's Plate
These are basic stat-boosting consumables, not build-defining picks — take them when nothing better is on offer.
FAQ
Is Duriano free to play? No — it's a premium Early Access title on Steam with paid DLC planned later. A permanent-upgrade progression system exists, but nothing is currently sold as a shortcut.
What's the difference between the Durian Variants? Each Variant is a distinct playstyle — tanky, fast, spell-focused, or evasive — not a power tier. Pick the one that matches how you want to play.
Do upgrades carry over between runs? Yes for currency-bought permanent upgrades and unlocks. No for Fate's Favors and augments, which reset at the start of every new run.
